AHA's Mission Statement

We are stewards of Hawaiian heritage. At the Academy of Hawaiian Arts, we cultivate and evolve the traditions of the native Hawaiian people through instruction in the performing, literary, and folk arts of Hawai‘i. Beginning with a foundation in hula, which encompasses the essence of Hawaiian history and customs, the Academy provides students an understanding of the origins of Hawaiian traditions, while also advancing new expressions of Hawaiian arts, music, and language. Inspired by our motto, “Ke kukui nānā i luna” (The light looked up to), we strive to sustain the vitality of Hawaiiana — past, present, and future.

Tuition is priced based on a eleven (11) month enrollment with a shutdown for the holiday period of December (Christmas / Chanukah / Kwanza / New Years). Classes are sometimes cancelled in support of a short-term need of competition or performance calendar. These classes are rescheduled at a different time at the discretion of the instructors. Tuition is required to be paid throughout the eleven (11) month enrollment period.

Tuition is due at or before the first each month or no later than the 5th of the month. If a student does not pay tuition by the 1st of the month or no later than the 5th of the month a $25 Late Fee shall be assessed, and it must be paid with the student’s monthly tuition before he/she will be allowed to attend class.

Tuition payment is considered timely if received by the 5th day of the month. Any payment that comes in after the 5th of the month is considered late and a late fee will be assessed. If a student does not promptly pay an overdue account, it will be considered delinquent. Tuition can also be set up as a reoccurring monthly payment to be paid on or before the due date as described above to avoid the late fee.

2. Delinquent and Late Accounts

If a student’s account is delinquent for three times (3X), PayPal autopay will be imposed or AHA may elect to terminate the account, the student will be required to pay a re-enrollment fee of $25; all owed amounts will be required to be repaid before re-enrollment.

3. Resignation & Leave of Absence Policy

Students may resign at any time and will be required in writing. However, if a student does not resign prior to the first meeting of his/her class in a month, the student remains responsible for the full month’s tuition regardless of whether he/she attends any classes that month. If taking time off for medical reasons please inform the Board with a letter from your physician and expected time of your return. If one is sick or taking a vacation you will still be required to make your tuition payments on time. If taking more than 3 months off this will be considered a leave of absence or resignation. Students must notify an AHA Board of his/her resignation in writing.

4. Refunds

Payments for tuition and/or registration fees are non-refundable. If you are unable to make your regular class meeting time please notify your class instructor or AHA Representative at [email protected].
